Fox Terrier Afghan CAL

Decide on how you want to arrange your squares. I tried not to have any of the same colors/patterns touching and stagger the Wirehair among the Smooth. It almost worked out perfectly, though I ended with both Whitenose together. Oh well.

When you have them laid out, you may wish to write it down, take a pic you can refer to, or even pin some numbers onto the squares as it gets pretty confusing later. You can see that I got mine reversed when I actually joined them together- right is now left, etc. That was okay with me, though. If it’s not that important to you where they end up, just start joining randomly!

If I had any kind of patience, I would have steamed them to lie flat for a prettier picture, but I don't, so curly corners it is. ;)

Joining

I chose to join with slst. With RS’s facing, slst from the WS joining just the outer loops together. Here’s a link to a video on how to do that:

This gives a really neat finish on the front and the back isn’t that bad, either. It is certainly faster than just sewing. You may prefer to just sew, though, or have a trusted method you prefer to use. I do recommend that you choose a join that will get you as flat of a surface as possible.

Plaiding

The Plaid effect is made entirely of Surface SlipStitch. And it is time-consuming with lots of ends to sew in. I just love how it looks, though. You can try just adding a few stripes down and across if you want. I went kind of crazy with mine.

I chose 2 neutral colors (black and white) and a darker shade of my background color (peacock blue). What colors and how many you use are up to you. Be as conservative or inventive as you like!

Things to Remember:

- When you Surface Slipstitch, you are actually working between rows or stitches, not into them.

- There are actually 2 rows of sc between those natural ridges rows of sc make. So when I refer to ROWS, I am counting both of those rows.

In this picture, you can see that I skipped 2 rows between the black and the white at the edge.

Stitch Markers places where the next rows of stripes will go.

Here are a few guidelines I went by:

- I skipped at least 2 stitches or rows between stripes

- I mirrored the pattern: Found the center and worked outward from there so both sides matched.

- I repeated this simple pattern for the next row of squares

- I began 1 stitch after and stopped 1 stitch before the Dog Face always, so that it was consistent.

Here is the sequence I used:

48 stitches x 54 rows = 47 spaces between rows and 53 spaces between stitches

Every other ROW isn’t a ridge on the RS, but you can work into those if you want to make your striping pattern more elaborate or precise.

It’s a little easier to tell what I was going for without the Dog in the center.

48stitches x 52rows

Sewing in the ends, though there are a lot of them, isn’t really that bad. These are not structural stitches, so you can just sew into the yarn one direction for 2-3 inches and then trim. Use a very sharp needle and sew right into the yarn.

Here’s what it looks like on the back with the ends sewn in:

And the allover result is pretty impressive, so all that work will feel worth it!

Border:

G hook, MC

Additional Stitches Used:

FPDC – front post double crochet

BPDC – back post double crochet

Ch2 does not count as a stitch

1. Join in a corner with a ch1. Hdc around the blanket placing:

- 4hdc in each corner

- 50 stitches each block.

You should have 150 stitches across top and bottom between the corners and 200 stitches down the sides between the corners. If you don’t get this exact number, it’s okay as long as it is an even number.

Join and ch2. Do not turn.

(Goal of 716 hdc)

2. (BPDC, FPDC) to increase into 8 stitches at the corner. On the first corner you will do 6, the next 3 corners you will do into 8, and back to the beginning corner you will increase the last 2 stitches. All other stitches work: (BPDC in the next, FPDC in the next) until you get to the next corner. Join and ch2. Do not turn.

(Goal of 748 post stithes)

3. BPDC around each BPDC and FPDC around each FPDC all the way around. Join and FO. Sew in all ends.

If you'd like a wider border, you can repeat row 3 a couple more times without needed more increases at the corners. Probably.

You have a finished Fox Terrier Afghan!!

Vóór we beginnen

Ik ga voor veel variatie, zodat er geen vlakken met één kleur komen, dit scheelt tijd in de planning,

Schikking

Neem het besluit hoe de deken te schikken. Probeer zo afwisselend mogelijk de vierkanten te schikken, de langharige en glad harige proberen om en om te leggen

Om uw keuze vast te leggen kun je een foto maken van de schikking.

Blok de vierkanten en laat ze plat drogen.

ik kies voor een sluiting met hv. Met de geode kanten tegen elkaar, haak door de buitenste lussen beide lagen samen..

Dit geeft een mooie rand en is zeker sneller als naaien.

Natuur kunt u uw eigen methode gebruiken

Afwerken v/d draden en ruitmotief

Probeer de draden meet e haken waar mogelijk , dit scheelt veel naaiwerk.

Ik kies voor 2 kleuren voor het ruitmotief (Bekijk de video hierboven) en een iets donkere kleur als de basiskleur (hier blauw). Wat kleuren en hoeveel aangaat , moet u creatief zijn.!

Notitie:

- Bij het gebruik van de oppervlakte halve vaste, werken we tussen de rijen , en niet in de rijen.

- Er zijn 2 rijen vasten tussen deze oppervlakte hv.

- Als ik de rijen tel doe ik dit per 2 rijen.

Hier zie je 2 rijen tussen de zwarte en de witte lijnen.

Plaats steek markers voor het overzicht.

Hier vind u wat regels:

- Sla minimaal 2 rijen over voor de volgende streep.

- Ik heb het patroon vanuit het midden gespiegeld.

- Herhaal dit patroon tot de buitenkant.

- Ik begin 1 steek na en werk tot 1 steek voor het honden gezicht.

Hier een overzicht van één square:

48 st x 54 rijen = 47 ruimtes tussen de rijen 53 ruimtes tussen de steken

Elke tweede RIJ is een rand op de goede kant, kies voor meer uitgebreid of nauwkeurige ruitvorming.,

Tel hier uw eigen ruittelling uit zonder honden hoofd.

Alle draden afhechten. Weg-weven heen en terug.

Dit is de achterkant :

Rand:

4 mm haaknaald , MC

Steek gebruik:

FP-stk – stokje langs de voorkant om de poot v/d steek

BP-stk – stokje langs de achterkant om de poot v/d steek

2-l telt niet als steek

1. Aanhechten in een hoek met 1-l. haak hstk rondom de deken:

- 4hstk in elke hoek

- 50 hstk in elk blok.

Dit zijn 150 hstk langs de boven en onderkant tussen de hoeken 200 hstk langs de zijkanten, tussen de

hoeken. Als het aantal afwijkt , zorg dan dat het een even aantal is.

Sluit met 2-l. NIET draaien. (= 716 hstk)

2. (BP-stk, FP-stk) we meerderen 8 steken in de hoeken

In de eerste hoek doen we er 6, in de volg 3 hoeken meerderen we 8st , terug bij de laatste hoek nog 2st. Werk als volgt voor de andere st: (BP-stk in volg st, FP-stk in volg st) tot de volgende hoek. Sluit. NIET draaien.(= 748 Post steken)

3. BP-stk rond elk BP-stk en FP-stk rond elk FP-stk rondom het geheel. sluit en afkanten draden afhechten.
